Moon was here long before humans let alone oral traditions about its absence.

If there was no moon, what would the cow jump over? AND, what about green cheese?

    Not really.

Of course there was a time when the moon did not exist.
There was also a time when the earth did not exist or was just a rock gathering dust.
It's a very old connected and complicated system with a bunch of odds against it ever working. A long, long, long bet.
For starts, the weather system would go kind of crazy to us without the moon.

I think you need a lot of solar panels.
But this and wind power if done crazy huge scale I do wonder about. We "steal" energy from a system in equilibrium.
There has to be a downside. There is no free lunch in the world of physics. Can a big enough wind farm affect those downstream from that wind?

You jest, but I do wonder if there any long term effects to all of the 'renewable' sources of energy. I know it's an infinitesimally small portion of energy they're removing from the climate system, but I also know there's no free lunch.

Edit- Bob was typing about the same time as me.

And worst of all, no Radar Men from the Moon. Who would Commando Cody with his rocket back pack fight then?

And all the movies on this list would have had alternative titles.

AND, no Comanche Moon prequel to Lonesome Dove, and what would lovers do without the moon?

    The horror, the horror.

Physicists state that the Earth's moon has stabilized the Earth's rotation over these many years. However, given enough time, the Earth and moon will ultimately be twice the distance apart with the Earth and moon locked together in their rotation, due to tidal forces between the Earth and moon.

What would the Earth be like without a moon?

I am only interested in plausible scenarios thanks, no fantasy stuff please.
It is a full moon tonight in our area thus the question arose.....

    Cheers,

It's all speculation but undoubtedly different. You might just recollect that if if weren't for Thomas Edison we'd all be watching TV by candle light.

Philo T Farnsworth would spin a little bit faster in his grave after hearing that statement.

    Oh Despicable Me!!!

Wait oh is this Practical Philosophy or Practical Sophistry?

No space race to the moon => Soviet domination => global Communism. Or perhaps just less romance.

    Best Regards,
    Bob
