Help me out here - - What cutter?
Hardened steel not quite 56Rc but a little harder than 48. It can be filed but not easily.
What kind of steel? Whatever it is they make commercial lawnmower blades from. 5160, 1084, L6 ? I don't know.
Manual Mill. Bearings are - - well not shot but not new. I have a Timkin Rebuilt kit. Just haven't installed it yet.

So what end mill?
Carbide or Ceramic?
What flute Pattern?
How many flutes?
Will a coating make a difference?
The pass will be on the side of the end mill about 1/2" to 3/4: wide. Depth of cut in the area of 0.050"
I am totally burning out conventional 4 flute carbide end mills in like three passes.
I want a cutter that will last the season. I have become fond of sharpening my Ferris zero turn blades on the milling machine. I get a really nice long lasting edge.

Ceramics on a manual mill? You're kidding, right..???

I have had excellent success with this tool from OSG: ExoCarb WXS

That said, I don't know how well it would work on a Bport.

Seems a bit overkill for lawn mower blades but if you want to do this then carbide is what you should use. You might consider a cup wheel instead. These are not microtome blades.
