getting the break to work on an old Lathe. Jet 1450

Things have been slow so I have gotten to some real back burner stuff. the old lathe that really doesn't get used for much hasn't ever had a working break on it and I'd like to fix that for the one or two times a month I use it. I can't find any old manuals on this thing though. anything know anything about these before I go do exploratory surgery?

Any pics, pics can help get answers as many might not be familiar with that model machine. As its a Jet, I would guess its just a band brake, maybe it needs a new lining or just adjustment, just wag'ing because that is all I can do without more info.

If the brake is broken, you may need to weld the break in the brake.

My Harrison m300 is an oddball it shoves a tapered wedge into the underside of the driven spindle sheave right up into the belt groove.

Fixed an Leblond eddy current brake recently. I adjusted the air gap.

After exploratory surgery it turns out the lathe never had a break and that's why it didn't work.

Add a three phase motor and a VFD and you will have power brakes.

I assume it already has power feed on the apron so the little steering wheel on the apron spins around.
