Hello! I need some advice. Recently a local business decommissioned a Clausing 1500 14x48 lathe and sell it for scrap. I was curious and he sold it to me for 100$. It has the original chuck, tailstock, motor, etc. He threw in the steady rest for an extra 40$. It was taken out of service because the tensioner belt bracket broke, and I figured I would just make a new one on my Tree milling machine.
Im just starting out with machine work. I want to retire from teaching and build engines for fun, rather than profit.
Was this a good purchase? Im not really sure how much a lathe that size is worth, but I plan on setting up a VFD and using it.. some day.
