Help, cutting a point on end of a rod

Berol
Are you taking the p*** ?

If not, turn the topslide by 30 degrees towards the chuck.
Hold the rod in a collet preferably or a decent 3 jaw chuck, or centered in a 4 Jaw even .
Set the tool exactly at centre height
Run the lathe with chuck top going away from you. ie in reverse.
Shave the end of the rod in stages untill you are left with the 60 degree point .
Adjust centre height if needed for final cut.
Check the 60 degrees with a 60 degree threading tool guage and alter topslide angle if needed.
When done .....
Turn the forward/ reverse switch back to forward ready for next time you use the lathe. !!!.

Am sure you are taking the p*** though, and I am the fall guy.

You may need to be more specific. Are you looking for the on switch, the correct place to attach your work piece or are you a more advanced user.

If you are so new to the use of a lathe you should possibly get some instruction or do some reading before you attempt to use the machine.
