Just picked up a republic 1440 lathe today to keep the miles off my large Reed-Prentice, I can figure out how to engage the lead screw. It does not turn, half nut will engage. All the feed and cross feed work just as they should. I have been messing with it for hours and at a loss. Its got to be simple, that I am over looking. Any help will be great.

If you have the gearbox set for threading the leadscrew should be turning. There is a shear pin in the output to the leadscrew, it's possible that needs replacing.
