Is this a hone?

This was in with a bunch of Craytex that was being thrown away at work. No one there knew what it was. I'm guessing it's some sort of hone for small bores but would like to verify that and also get an idea of proper use. Looks like the company it no longer in business according to the Google machine.

They measure .054 in diameter and 2" in length. The odd diameter makes me think their not for sizing a hole directly.

The tube is labeled "Precision Diamond Tool CO" PO Box 274 1280 Bluff City Blvd. Elgin Ill with Phone and Telex no's.

I know them as pin hones, and they are for hole sizing - even directly, ……………...and even .054'' dia, which is inbetween #55 .0520'' & #54 .0550''

FWIW .054'' would give you a clearance on 1.35mm which is .05314''

etc etc etc

We call them split laps.

McMaster-Carr

They will do the job, just not very quickly.

But there is no other way sometimes.

Yes, I recall watching toolmakers using them for days at a time to put ejector
pin holes in a plastic mold.

Not really a hone, like a sunnen.

These aren't split but they do feel a bit larger and have rough patches in the center (i'm assuming that's the diamond) but can't get a decent measurement to get a size.
