I know it unscrews, but how do you hold the stud and get to the nut?

The stud is an M8. It's about 3" down inside this plastic cavity. The bottom of the stud is embedded in a squishy rubber isolator so when you turn the nut, the isolator just twists. I've tried a flat head screw driver, but can't hold it.

Is this what they make drag link sockets and crowfoot sockets for? What am I missing here?

Weld a handle on a deep socket, Long nose vise grips, make a special socket with a captive screw driver, crow foot wrench, likely six more ways to do it but it could have already been done till you're done reading about them...........Bob

Just put a deep socket onto an impact, spin it as fast as it will go and it should come off. The idea is to spin the nut faster then the bolt can keep up spinning itself.

My fault, I thought this was a Machining forum.

I must have clicked on the hyperlink right between Recipes for Hummus and how to Crochet a Jock Strap.
