How do you shim the shaft? Thanks

Go to the John Deere web site and look up the parts catalog. They have a shim kit for it with a selection of shims. I could look up the part number for you if you give me the serial number. There is about four serial number breaks ,and two different manufatures of gear boxs for the 609. Ron

It is the lowest serial number 0-020000 by memory. I have the shims I took off. Bought a new shaft and bearings.

Shim # GY2001W is .005 , GY2180W is .003, GY2181W is .010 these shims set the bearing pre load on the spindle. Shims # W22424 is .003, W22425 is .005, W22426 is .010 these set the backlash and pre load by going under the end plates. The first shims listed go under the castelation nut. Ron

I am replacing the output shaft on a JD609 . S/n 64606 Gear box made in Spain CE17618 looks like the last one used in this series of mowers. I cannot locate the procedure to shim for bearing preload and backlash.Do you have access o this information? Thank you
