How's it made: swivel head on Bearing Puller, C-clamps, jack screws?

i bought a cheap set of 3-jaw bearing pullers on craigslist that the fellow said were barely used and the 3" version was slightly damaged but functional. On closer inspection the swivel end had snapped off the screw and one of the puller jaws was bent.

But what i'm trying to figure is how was that swivel attached to the screw? Heated and pressed, or maybe the back edge was rolled over to secure it to the screw? Also i don't have the broken piece to know if it was a ball end or cylindrical.

This same type of construction seems to be used on C-clamps and maybe some jack screws.

Has anyone ever built these and know how it is designed and put together?

Most seem to have 4 prongs that get swaged behind the ball.

For a DIY job finish the hole with a ball end mill or ball burr, cut slots. and then stake over by whatever means are at hand.

My bearing/pulley pullers generally have a flat end on the screw with a little point in the center to engage the center-drilled hole found in many shaft ends. No swiveling ball feature.
