    603 would be a good choice, the disassembly temp is only 250F compared to 350F for 620 or 680.

    Easier on the powdercoating, you can pop it in the oven without killing the paint.

    Quick update on this. I decided to work on some other stuff while thinking over what I wanted to do with this problem. Last night I figured I'd try my hand at turning stainless steel on the mini lathe, and after what was probably far too much time, I'm 90% of the way to a new part with a slightly bigger shaft. Need to get a parting tool that fits my cheap quick change tool post, but once I have that, all I'd need to do is tap a hole in the head for the cover, and make a small notch in the head for the spring.
