    "Grit Edge" hole saws and hacksaw blades are the same idea, and maybe a thousand randomly-oriented grits are best for cutting/grinding away brittle materials like glass. But IME if you can braze on sizeable carbide pieces like wornout or broken inserts, and then grind them in place to a properly-oriented cutting edge, they work better. What is the OP actually wanting to do?

    These guys have the carbide impregnated sticks you are looking for. I couldn’t find them on there website but I have orderd them in the past. Home - Broco-Rankin

    Here is another source you might try. B&W Metals - Page 2

    In the past I have broken up old carbide inserts and brazed them on tooling with good results. Just make sure the inserts are not coated the bronze will not stick to the coated inserts.

    Back in my younger years, I built several devices that fed powdered carbide down a conveyor belt and dumped into a pool of melted metal matrix onto the OD drill collars and on the shoulders of drill pipe connections. Was also used on other drilling tools as mentioned in this thread. It was a type of submerged arc weld process using welding equipment putting out something like 1500 amps and higher. Not your small shop welding type of equipment. They did not use oxy-gas for this process, only for stress relieving after welding. Ken S.

    A few old timers related it to me, and then I read it in the
    reprinted books "echos from the oil country" where they have pix and
    a good description.

    If your tools are in there, catch them on the way back up....before they
    hit the next county....should be all nice and cleaned off too....

    You don't mention what material you are machining. I also get the impression you want to try to accomplish this on your own, which I think will be a failure. Having said that, there are companies that do very good spray coatings, cbn, diamond, carbide, ect. Here is where I would start, after you get your cutting tools.

    Not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve. There are many manufactures making diamond plated tools. Carbide is not as common. There are single pass hone tools, plated form tools and plated turning boring inserts.

    It's a downhole tool, he's trying to drill out part of the tool and surrounding
    rock to loosen up a stuck drill tool.

    We have used this company to put a carbide grit plating on expanding mandrels to increase grip.

    thank you guys for all the advice I think I found a place that has what I'm looking for .25x.187 chips

    I REALLY want to play with a Tig torch that needs a 1/4" tungsten...
    Sorry for the non useful content but Damn... That's gotta be one warm process and one big machine.

    I don't recall a TIG torch being used to apply carbide to drilling tools or even mills or cleanup tools used in the oilfield. Mostly oxy-gas and Stoody rod used. Hard banding used carbide-metal matrix applied with arc and shielding gas. Ken

    Kenco does a lot of earth moving equipment, I know they used tig because I used to make the torches for them.
