Kalamazoo H9AW motor issues

My trusty bandsaw is acting up after many years of faithful service.
The voltage is 110VAC, single phase obviously.

The motor just hums. Everything is free and moving in the gear box.

I'm no electrician but could the capacitor have failed?

Thanks,

Tom

"The sheave turns and the motor hums like mad. That's it. Capacitors maybe?"

Hmm, perhaps? Is this the first time this happened?

Jim,

Yes, this is the first time in 25 years of owning this saw. I'm going the remove the capacitor cover and ohm out the caps.

Then you have to expect a start capacitor. Don't turn on the motor any more. Just get a capacitor. Happened to me before, just once.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The failure of the terminal on the larger capacitor was the problem :) $8.97 for a USA made capacitor and I was back in business.

Thanks guys for the help.

Tom
