I have mystery material part at hand and was wondering if the material is Kanthal.
Anyone with Kanthal machining/welding experience?
-Oxidizes to light brown-gray after countless hours at 1000-1200C. Inconel 601 crumbles to dust in same timeframe. (oxidation color would match Kanthal in my experience)
-Machines like butter (much unlike Inconel alloys)
-TIG weld bead is really "fluidy", cracks easily on cooling and always bright (no oxidation colors even if I pull the shield gas away when the weld bead is red hot)
-Strongly magnetic
