Mainly a lurker here, as I don't know, a hell of a lot more than I do know.
Just bought a used FTV-1 in Wisconsin. Since they're right there in the same state, I'm having it shipped direct to A&D Machine Tool Rebuilders for evaluation( and if need be, some TLC )before it's long trip here to Alaska. Once it's here, it'll be for good, so figured it was money ahead to correct any major issues( if needed ) before it gets up here. No such services available locally, and the shipping is a killer. The cosmetics, electrical, and basic mechanical I can handle myself, but when it comes to insuring the axis' and head are true, I'll defer to the pro's for that.
It has a 3hp motor, so I'm considering powering with a simple static converter, as the resulting reduced power ( de-rated to 2hp ish? ) will likely still be plenty for my needs( this is a home shop ). Figured if it turns out to be underpowered with the static, I'll go to a VFD. It has power feed on the X-axis, and an older Acu-Rite 2-axis DRO.
Any Lagun users out there, with any thoughts on must do items, things to watch out for, or general words of wisdom? I've got a repro factory manual on order from Ozark. If anyone out there has a pdf that would be nice to store in the laptop. This is my first Bridgeport sized mill, and am upgrading from a Rockwell 21-100.
Thanks in advance.
