Default Lathe toolpost grinder centerline orrientation

This is a real simple question about using a toolpost grinder on a lathe to make a taper. Should the grinding wheel contact point be on the centerline similar to a cutting tool or does it not matter? For cylinder grinding I do not think it matters but for taper grinding does the geometry vary the angle if it is not on center?

I believe it will just like a lathe tool. Otherwise the sides of your taper won’t be straight.

#2 is correct- the contact line of the grinding wheel must be on center to reproduce the taper correctly.
