Are the 18v-20v adapters worth a crap? I've seen mixed reviews. I have a pile of older 18v tools that are still in good(ish) shape, but I'm tired of buying 18v batteries that seem to die prematurely..............Anyone use one?

I have 3 or 4 aftermarket adapters for my old DeWalt 18V tools, and as far as I can tell, they work great. I've had them for about a year , I think.

One possible concern is that I think the battery protection circuitry for the 20V stuff lives in the tool itself, not in the battery, but I could be wrong about that.

The ones I use work great never a problem except in my cordless handheld bandsaw it has a extra lockout molded into it not allowing the adapter to go in all the way. It’s fixing to get the Dremel treatment.

I have the Dewalt one and it works great. Since Dewalt sells it they can’t be too worried about the battery getting damaged. The adapter is a really smart idea, lets you move to new technology without obsoleting your original investment.
