Friend (that I'm posting for) got relocated up to Clearfield, PA for a facility start-up and he's looking for some resources.

Namely-
a scrap yard that sells randoms
an electric shop to find contactors/heaters/buttons/etc
Machine tools/accessories
Fasteners
Random junk you need to start a facility
Pipe/fittings/flanges/etc

Any help would be appreciated!

'Scuse me, but is he a blind paraplegic with BO and a rude disposition... or what?

"Standard need" hitting a new location to scout in advance online,

Go Ogle:

Manufacturing and fabrication support services Clearfield, PA
And similar. Try DuBois as well. What ain't "real close" is not all that far in central PA.

.. then get off yer arse and on the phone, email, or behind the wheel, stop, introduce yerself and speak with bizness folk and ask about what you don't see "in your face".

Try to make more friends than enemies. You'll soon have a "network".

Part of what makes it FUN, actually, most humans being a tad "nomadic" and ever-curious.

Works in Taipei, Tokyo, Manila, Monterrey, Milano, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Seoul, London, Zuerich, Praha, Berlin, Buda & Pest.. or Bandar Seri Begawan.

And not-only.

Easier in Pennsyltucky. No need of a passport or visa.

The locals speak a (mostly) recognizable dialect of English and even publish in it.

Go figure.

:D

Less'n you're looking to float the head waters of the west branch, Clearfield is pretty much the middle of nowhere, within sight of it anyway.
What kind of real company builds a new facility from scrap?

$31 air ticket to Pittsburgh outta DuBois regional with an associated "free trade zone", decent Interstate highways, basic rail.

PA has higher tax & gov corruption overheads, worse roads than some other Eastern hinterlands. Even so the actual folks work rather better and smarter than they vote, so what part of that matters depends on what yer making. Or maybe just warehousing and distributing?

Don't knock it, Clearfield has a drive-through liquor store :D and a small college.

Whenever I'm driving by, I stop in. Nice place, actually.

Odd place to get to for booze, off a Green Mountain base?

Best part of Burlington, VT was the fishing "back in the day". Lake trout outta nearby Champlain, browns outta the Winooski, rainbows off a de facto private preserve, given GE had Underhill Artillery Range under lockdown testing the still secret early Gatling Cannons, weekdays. And Dad was the last Ft Ethan Allen US Army Post Commander => "Deputy" to the USAF who were taking it over.

Two families fishing of a Sunday..

:)

Hard to beat Vermont for fall foliage.
Or Bernie Sanders for fallen foolatlarge.

:D

….and a very large gunshop...Grices.
Many from Erie drive the 4 hours just to get there.
Google Maps

Huh? Bethel Park to Staten Island to visit my Brother was only about twice that, 2-lane blacktop for the joy of it.

2AM launch so most of the drunks had gotten home. Arrived for breakfast. Back when the "Bavaria" was new. Three cars going my way. Five the other way, the whole trip. I did say "2-lane?" And not counting the three PA State cruisers as charged me the "tax", AKA speeding ticket, at the Bedford bypass. Which earned me a 30 day suspension and going to a DMV class.

Weird part was the class mostly taught us how to get a lawyer, throw shade, and pay more in cash, Lawyer and negotiated fine... but "beat" the specifics on the citation so no suspension and "I don't want to see you back HERE again!" from the instructor!

That worked. Never did get another ticket .... in PA. Only TWO ever since, MD & VA.

You'd have to know Pragmatic Pennsylvania at the dawn of the 1970's?

I'd bet they are a sight greedier NOW!

:(

True, but grew up in the Hoosier state and have been back and forth between there and lower Hudson Valley relatives. The novelty of the drive-thru is just too good to miss. Prefer new routes through the Alleghenies when headed north, but Clearfield is good for a diner stop.

That goes back a ways - safe to say Burlington and south along the lake are bucks up and quite a bit harder to get access to now. But there're state public boat access in places and once on the lake it don't matta.

Yeah, particularly great foliage this year. Dry summer, lots of anthocyanins in the leaves. Poor Bernie, screwed again by the Dems. Can't even get a cabinet post. Macrocosm of VT politics, shifted right. But... that's VT, always sucking hind tit on the national stage. Consolation prize is we're morally superior. :D

LOL! A Great Uncle retired as Chief of Police, Anderson, IN. To Elkins, WVA! Must have done isometrics 30-odd years in the flatlands .. as he was still able to drive West, By God, Virginia 2-lane!

:)

Appalachia instilled a LOVE of "2-lane", Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Czech & Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland, Spain, France, UK, Ireland, Aus, NZ.. 26 countries all told. As well as USA.

Miss "Long Lake" Down-East, too, speaking of fishing.....

Lay-ass Bernie WANTED that screwing! Remains notoriously well-known, inspires youngsters to make bigger fools of THEM selves so he doesn't have to do any hard work. Wife gets to keep 12 percent of all the campaign money he raised as the fee for arranging to buy advertising?

Same con game he's BEEN eating off of all his career! Small percentages of big money and fully legal! Eat yer cheatin' heart out, Quid-Pro-Beijing-Joe, Bernie has clean hands even if foolish!

Personally, he's probably about as Marxist as Robert Duvall playing Josef Stalin for the acting fees was!

:D

Soooo. y'all might have been..... back in the day the lad my elementary school was named for was still above-ground. Ira Allen Elementary.

Bernie running a perfectly "legal" con don't make it any less of a con!

Just means right-wing-nuts would rather see Bernie healthy and screwing his own side that risk a replacement who might not!

:D

Love that area, though adult memories are mostly of flying over or landing at some of the small airports. Born not too far from there, closer to State College. Sometime PM’r Andy Lofquist/ Metal Lathe Accessories is little south of there.

With Erie to the NW & Pittsburg SW with State College to the east it is central to a lot of resources.....& the dereliction of industrial boom times that waned in the Early 1960’s. Sorry, no direct knowlege of the junk emporiums but i notice on auction sites that troves of old manual machines, wood & metal working, still show up in that region.
Cleveland(HGR, among others) & Allentown (Action ) are close enough & i have made good purchases with both in past years.

Good luck, as people have noted, it is not really that far from anywhere as you probably calculated in making the decision. Certainly better real estate options than the coasts yet lake or ocean coasts aren’t far. & a lot less “oversight”.

Kovalchik Salvage was a "classroom" as a kid. Dad would detour to indulge my hunger for all things mechanical. We'd tour the massive heavy-oil and diesel engines that had pumped mines, compressed natural gas, or powered early industry. Sat shot a few years ago showed a thin shadow of its former span.

"If you like the outdoors..." Or have kids that do.. Pennsylvania, with an astonishingly high percentage of woodlands, is a treasure as to myriad State Parks with at least "pleasant" - if only just - facilities, as well.

Fishing and wild game hunting, for those so inclined, was also better than most other States, though I gave up hunting after the war.

Deer, Elk, Black Bear, wild Turkey, et al had, after all, never offered me any HARM. "Fair's fair", etc,

What kind of real company builds a new facility from scrap?

Not exactly a real company. It's a startup working on shoe strings to prove a small scale LNG process. The former engineer (former for a reason) bought a heap of components that don't play well together (things like 480v gensets to run 4160 equip), so the new engineer (my friend) is working to get the thing running. Time is important to them so if they can find good parts locally they'd prefer that.

For instance, in OKC we have Electrical Surplus that's about 50/50 new/used, it'd be great to find something like that.

Well, damn. Ya mean he's not a socialist after all? Better tell Gregsy and SND.

...Soooo. y'all might have been..... back in the day the lad my elementary school was named for was still above-ground. Ira Allen Elementary.

Ira Allen, morally superior? If the man had any morals atall, I'd be shocked. Sued every one of his siblings, some more than once, famously gloated that a woodlot of old growth white pine he'd sold was actually worthless spruce and along with his brother Ethan, bsed the Feds into granting Vermont statehood. By Federal law the resident natives had to be fairly dealt with in order to grant statehood. So the Green Mountain Boys said the natives only came to our fair state in the daytime, but went home at night!

We have a long tradition to live up to. :D

They're a bit of a drive away but is Moses Glick or Fazzio's still as good as they once were? I had friends who used to tell great stories of finds at those places in years past.

Also HGR is probably the other great one that may be just as close. Is Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace any good out that way?

LOL! Bernie? From "altitude" his political leanings appear to be classical Greek, actually.

"Thespian party"
Ira Allen, morally superior? If the man had any morals atall,

It was a test. To know the Allen traveling circus & its many and several weird and/or amusing sideshows, you'd HAVE to be a Vermont native!

:)

Back to Pennsyltucky, I THINK we had put more Governors up on felony charges than any other State East of the Mississippi by the time I left. Nought to do with morality, though. Grudge f**ks between opposing clans of thieves by turn-about, rather.
