As title notes: Need some stressproof 1144 steel rod minimum 3.5" dia x maybe 2" long. I am making a spindle endcap for clamping a sawblade/grinding wheel which will end up at about .500" thk, the rest of the ~2" I'll use for workholding. Let me know if anyone has anything out there. Just don't want to have to buy a 12" pc. Thanks --

I will indeed pardon your ignorance;-) You've done so for me on several occasions...
The item in question is specified on the drawing (yes, an actual drawing) to be made from stressproof; the spindle in question is the business end of a saw/grinder made by Strasbaugh, designed for grinding and sawing glass with a diamond wheel. I suspect they specified stressproof for long-term stability, if I were to guess. Obviously, I could use something else, but 1144 sounds like a good candidate for the application.
