Their website says, "Meehanite® is the registered name [sic] trade name of a family of cast ferrous materials manufactured under rigid metallurgical control…" And they go into as much more detail as you wish to read.

No, they did some good R&D, and came up with good stuff. Today real metallurgists can spec at least some of it generically, so as to avoid trademark issues.
