Management, please enforce more control over posters' locations

There are many blatant violations of the PM rules on location. Many don't even narrow it to a state, let alone a region of a state.

Locations like "West Coast" and worse yet "People's Republic" make a mockery of the rules and one poster changes their location so frequently (to disguise their location in China) that it is ridiculous.

One reason location is so important is because a person's geographic location in part colors their view of national events. While I have spent time in other states I can not possibly know what the situation "on the ground" is in a place like California at the current time and media reports often distort what actually is.

My location is listed as Eastern Massachusetts and for detail I would add Greater Boston/Inside Route 128 belt. That is an accurate location and allows another member to judge the general area without the finer detail of naming my city of residence. In the age of the internet many of us are cautious about revealing too much but I think a location needs to be fixed at least down to the state level for USA and country for others. "European Union" would be too vague as would "midwest".

I only posted this after noting how severely locations have declined in the past year and I think the rules are fair and should be followed.

I hadn't really thought about in that viewpoint, but it is a good point. I list my location as Webster Groves, where my shop is, but I live in Brentwood, the next township to the north. To the east is Maplewood and west is Kirkwood (we seem to be hung up on woods, maybe because we have so many trees). Locals will tell you that those four have four different mindsets. When I was a teen, we regarded Webster girls as completely different from Maplewood ones. So did the Maplewood girl I dated in my high school senior year.

The "alt-right" is an invention of the far left to pigeonhole conventionally liberal/centrist people who are blatantly not traditionally right wing, but do not subscribe to modern left wing ideologies. Any time someone even uses the phrase it's just a big flag waving announcement of their far left proclivities.

And anyone with an unclouded and objective view of the world can see plainly that it's currently the far left that are more prone to group think and ideological intolerance.

You can write whatever to the location and ”management” has no way to verify it.
So unless its something offensive there is no point. Some members seem to make up ”funny” locations like Emmanuelle Goldensteinberg does but it really doesn’t matter.
And he has stated it probably about 1000 times that he lives in China so its not like he is trying to cover up something.

Seeing how "management" can't:
1. remove spammers threads completely (locking doesn't remove linky)
2. Remove spammers much at all anymore
3. ban people that sell in every post
4. Not enforcing the rules in the for sale section (some people seem to get a free pass)

I'm certain enforcing location is not very high up on the list..

Also, doing any of the above would hurt google rankings, and hence "Cash flow".

I really don't care where anyone is* and it would be presumptive to assume their views are necessarily driven by their locale.

But I find it abrasive when jamokes (here or on Ebay) try to be cute by putting down shit like "North of Wonderland" or "America's Heartland" or "Still searching".

*Except when it relates to their question...like people who ask "who is within 100 miles of me that can do cylindrical grinding" but don't say where they are....

This reminds me of the census this year. One of the questions was Race. I entered White. Then they further wanted to zero in on the Identity Politic by asking origin. I was tempted to enter Nationalist but stopped short and entered American. I do not agree with further dividing us into Identity groups.

Anyway, if you agree with the constitution as written you are considered Alt Right or Far Right by the mainstream media and the left. Other topics that paint you as Alt Right may include: Christian faith, gun ownership, Libertarian behavior, Entrepreneurial behavior, desire to vote at a polling center, desire to see party affiliation for candidates on the ballot... the list goes on. If you disagree with world view socialism, you must be Alt Right. Right?

The notion of moderate or centrist only applies to the left.

Most of the Alt Right people are making a good living and don't need government programs to survive. They can be converted by misfortune like needing expensive medical treatment and getting it paid for by Medicare. There are those like the Russian Jewish man I knew who came here from a poverty stricken Russian village in the 30s, made enough money to bring his family over, but the Nazis got them first. Despite being quite wealthy, he retained his liberal views. Most of the time the left/right attitude is more a factor of personal condition than some philosophical insight.

That's a common occurrence. My father was raised in the Great Depression years, his father worked for the TVA and social programs were what saved many. To this day he is a 'liberal'/Democrat although he would categorically be disgusted by what the liberal/Democrat party stands for now, if you were to ask him his views on each.

I dont care where anyone is from. Put Pluto in your location for all I care. If you have the knowledge I seek it doesnt matter where you are located. If I ask where you are located that would be a different story. Which can be answered in 1 sentence politely.

No need to ban people or delete threads. If you dont want to see it, dont look at it. Its not very hard.

Another disappointment that has arisen out of this crisis is the acknowledgment that many people live from paycheck to paycheck - and that is perfectly OK.

I am sure some people are struggling and warrant aid. But I'm also sure many more are the same people who smoke, drink, party, go to games, have cable TV, a new truck, and live their lives like there's no tomorrow. Certainly, the ones I personally know fit the second category.

The concept of saving for a rainy day? That's for suckers. The suckers whose funds will be tapped by all the people living their lives to the fullest.
