I am a Quality professional but no experience designing gages or tools.

I am currently making a simple rectangular block to be used as a stopper to maintain a bolt distance.

Can anyone please suggest the specific material to be used?

Reading online, it seems to me that tool steel will be a better choice. But I am not sure what to specify on drawing.

Thanks.

Great. Yes, that should be sufficient for a simple application like this.
I was thinking about oil quenched, O1. But I guess O1 will be more suitable to be used in a go/no go gage?!

01 is a general structural tool steel and can be used for quite a lot of applications in either its annealed state or hardened state. If you can find a gauge size of what you need it’s a good start

"Stopper" ??? Holding parts in place ? Impact ? Wear ?

Or "Go no/go" gage ?

Which is it sir.
