I save the old carbide mills for roughing cuts on AR500. Once you get thru the rough stuff go back with a good mill for the finish cut. We try to do most of the cuts with the waterjet instead of plasma or torch.
Ugh. They used to use a lot of AR plate at my old job, for an impact mill. I used to clean them up with an angle grinder before attempting anything else. It was the cheapest/fastest way to do it, and I had enough material to not worry.
