I am milling gears for a fixed centre gearbox. From the ratio and teeth required the pitch diameter ranges from 9.75 to 10.25 DP. I am using a 2.5 module cutter since they are more readily available than DP. Obviously they do not make 9.75 or 10.25 DP cutters so I would have to do it with a 10 DP anyway.
The question is:
Are all the calculations for root diameter and tip diameter calculated from the Machinery Handbook for spur gears applicable or should I use the total depth calculations from the module section?
I suspect it will take cutting some blanks to check backlash and fit.
Thanks.
