Mini lathe control box over heating

For some reason the mini lathes control box overheats even when its off from the control box while the lathes power cable is plugged to the wall socket(ON). Is this even possible? Even the forward reverse switch heated up while turning a 12mm wood, the motor was not over heating.
Any better way to troubleshoot this?
