Just got a B&S #2 grinder with the bronze spindle bearings. Plate on machine says "Gargoyle Velocite E oil". As Gargoyle was bought by Mobil, I emailed them but have not received a reply. What oil should I use? I have Velocite 6 oil for my mill but think maybe I should use Velocite 3 for the grinder?????:scratchchin:

I used to mix kerosene in with the lightest spindle oil I could find for a 1920ish B&S surface grinder I once used, about 50/50. Any less kero and it would heat up quickly. Ran it for 5 years or so before the shop bought a Kent, that later had the spindle bearings die. The old B&S kept on going.

I also have a #2 B&S that the previous owner used Velocite #6 and I have continued to use without problem. The spindle can run for an hour or two without heating up more than 15 degrees.
