Moody Machine & Welding Intro

Ive been looking at practical machinist for a while now and have finally decided to join. I'm 25 and run my own small welding and machine shop. I have been welding for 11 years, which of most I have taught myself. My main type of welding is heli arc, though also capable of mig and stick. I like the no clean up with the heli arc welding. In the past 3 1/2 years I have been apprenticing with an old machinist who enjoys working on steam trains or anything steam related. I really lucked out finding Paul, he is capable of making anything that can be imagined up or repair something that is broken. I work all day at his shop then do my jobs at night at my own shop. It amazes me that he is almost 3 times my age and can walk circles around me all day.

Beautiful welds, you know when you get that color your doing it right. Keep up the good work and pay careful attention to your mentor.

Thanks for all the comments, I take in everything Paul tells me like a sponge. All the little tricks and what not is endless I really enjoy it.

Welcome, you do have some great welds there. Sounds like you better get all the info. from Paul you can. He sounds like a great guy.

We all need a "Paul" in our lives - machining, welding, or otherwise.
