need help, marshalltown punch press flywheel bushing

hello

I have a marshalltown OBI 32 ton punch press. Unfortunately, it was left on during the whole weekend:angry:. This caused the bronze bushing inside of the flywheel to heat up and wear. When I came in monday morning, there were bronze shavings all over the floor and the whole machine was hot to the touch.

So, my dilemma is that I need to replace the bronze bushing. I am aware that the most cost-effective solution would be to invest in a new (used) press with the same capabilities. I have been browsing and I know I can get a nice press for a good price.
I also know the dangers of these machines.
I also know that even though these machines are durable workhorses, they are obsolete and I will not be able to find a replacement flywheel for that matter.
All of that being said, I am posting here with the hope that someone might be able to help in some way. I am talking to my boss and It seems he is on board with purchasing a new press. However, if we are still able to repair this one then it would be great!

I work in libertyville, IL. I have asked around some shops here and none seem to have the capability to punch/press out this bushing.

any info/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

It is an old machine. My guess is that the bushing probably had minor wear already. Running for so long, any little scuff could have started to wear faster and faster as the heat increased.
The machine is usually ran less than 7 hours a day, with intervals in between. It had been holding up for what we use it for.

mcmaster will sell you a bronze bushing you can turn/bore to fit or if a nomimal size just press in for about $80. Other than humping the fly wheel around it seems a fairly easy job..........Bob

OK, but it sure sounds like a lack of lubrication.

Maybe I'm missing something here but........It looks like the bushing is pressed in and locked with set screws. Twer it me I would split the bushing into two pieces with a sawsall and tap it out. Machine and press in a new bushing and lock it in with set screws as original. I'm thinking $80 in material and maybe 4 hours labor. Where am I going wrong?.................
