I am rebuilding the steel tracks for my skid steer.
Parts are no longer available for the tracks from the manufacture (leogering)

So I am left making some of them.
pins are on my list. The pin is similar to a 1/2-13 carriage bolt. it is 11-1/2" long and only has threads on the last 1/2 of the bolt.

So my options are:
buy 1/2-13 x 12" carriage bolts and cut them down to 11-1/2" long.
make bolts from 1/2 stock and thread both ends for nut.

The downside of the carriage bolts is that they are undersize on the unthreaded part. and the threads are 6" long
and wont be a very good bearing area on the tracks.

if I make bolts I can thread them as needed.
If I make bolts which material will be better.
12l14 crs or 1018 crs.

Thanks

Are you just putting new pins in the old tracks? How worn are the holes? If you use to tough a material for the pins the track will wear first. I would consider using soft pins to not wear the tracks.

I have a set of "similar to Loggering" tracks, and mine have carriage bolts
about 1.5 inches long. Each joint has 2 bolts, one on each side, pointing out.

Maybe someone used thru bolts, when they came originally with 2 each one pointing
out ?

As pointed out above, the bushings wear too.

Look at what dozers use.
