Hello all,
I am extremely new to machining. In fact I'm newer than new. The other day I was at the junk yard looking for some material to fabricate some flanges for a custom intake manifold I was building. I look over, in the bottom of a pile of washing machines, I see this Machine that looks like a mill. I've always wanted to get my hands on one so I investigate and see that its a Van Norman No. 6. "Got To Have It!" I have an addiction to untold history. The factories and handymen that ran this country inspire me. Obviously, I could not let this thing die there. I went and talked with the foreman out in the yard and he turns out to be the owner and has been skipping over the Mill, hoping somebody would save it before he couldn't hang on to it anymore. Needless to say, I got him to remove the heap of Washing machines off of it and squared a deal for $150. Upon further investigation,I noticed that all of the Axi move and the head spins freely. I get it home and me and a few other buddies walk it into my garage. Within 20 minutes of rewiring, she fires up and runs fairly well for being nearly lost forever under a mountain of Washing machines. Now i need some information from you knowledgeable folks. I'm in real need of figuring out what i need for it. It doesn't have any collets or tooling. I,m going to post some pictures and hope some of you can point me in the right direction to get started so i can learn on this thing. Or if i need to fabricate something for it. Thanks in advance!!!
