Hi there,

I have acquired some collets that im struggling to identify, I have been put onto this forum via mig-welding.co.uk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Dan

I looked through both old and new Hardinge (USA) collet catalogs and found nothing close. The 16 TPI is not common, and there is no diameter match with that pitch. When you said Whitworth, did you mean the angle is 55 degrees and the crests are rounded?

I suspect you have a UK-designed collet that Hardinge did not consider popular enough to put in their catalogs. Not to say Hardinge never made any, because they did do special orders.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the reply. I had browsed a list of hardinge style ones and came up short. I havent inspected the thread that closely, but shall do next time I'm in the shop, I merely put Whitworth as it seemed to fit better than the unf head guage, but that may be my guages. Is there not 1 1/8"-16 UN as a diameter match and pitch match?

Might end up making a chuck.

Cheers,

Dan
