Seems like every day I get a (recorded, canned) call supposedly from a specialist at Google wanting to help with this or that. Of course it couldn't possibly be really from Google and I hang up almost immediately but it's getting worse and worse...sometimes more than once a day. To add to the sneakiness, each call seems to come from a different US city, so impossible to tell whether to answer the phone or not.
Anyone else having this problem ?
Whom do you know that is NOT?
Phone traffic has moved-off CCITT / ITU end-to-end bothway confirmed signalling to VoIP. Source is easily spoofed. Telco no longer cares. There is not enough money spare in their fee structure to chase it if they did care.
Banks don't chase bad loans. Retailers and Credit card issuers don't chase fraudsters. That isn't where the money is. They write them off and simply increase the burden they impose on the ones they need not chase. Their customer base or "membership".
As with on-screen "advertising", any such call may be a vehicle to attempt to infect the receiving device - often a handheld. "Selling" not necessarily the objective.
Same pattern, different cities as source even when they disagree with the World Zone One numbering plan for the number faked. About a dozen a day if I am active on PM. About three per day when not. All bones in any given IP skeleton are connected, yah?
About three new ones in each whole YEAR when I still had GSM service, not "5G". GSM had legacy telco signalling.
Try that. Run heavy on PM and/or the 'net in general for a week, then "ban" yourself for a week. And/or pull the published number
off your website in favour of a "Contact Form". Those are
feasted-on by robot "crawlers". Same as PM's data is so extensively tracked and "mined". You didn't REALLY think you could secure a MySQL DB back of php, did you? Last time that happened their was a star in the East!
Takes a long time to go off-radar. But you can expect to see the same pattern of robocall arrivals drop as well after a lag.
Several years, mind. Her OWN carriers who have already paid death benefits and refunded premiums post-mortem are still trying to get me dear departed Mum to take NEW insurance policies. Same company!
Well.. dumb like a fox ,those inch-hoorance undertakers. Not bloody likely to have to pay-out a health insurance claim on a person over two years buried, are ye?
But in due course... you fade off the radar...
It's an advertising and data harvesting, data mining, database cracking & information theft - for selling-on more than "use" - "industry" thing. AKA the Devil's whorehouse, Google as the "mama san".
"Glass houses" we all live in. Read it and weep.
Latest release of OpenBSD finds a camera and audio recording capability on the platform during the install? It automatically options both of them inoperative. Does YOUR OS do that for you? A "sysctl" Wizard has to turn them on a-purposes. Few do. Smart folks.
Just go and use your phone. Oh.... wait...
If no more than one robocall a day? You should run for President.
Of the United States.
A cosmic whim has granted you the ability to traffic in s**t and still be able pick up a turd by the clean end.
Capitalize on that while you still can. It's only temporary.
But do NOT wear your hair funny, nor shape your lips when speaking as if advertising fellatory services!
The "teflon-D 'coz no shit sticks" effect may not even make it to the campaign finals.
