Seems like every day I get a (recorded, canned) call supposedly from a specialist at Google wanting to help with this or that. Of course it couldn't possibly be really from Google and I hang up almost immediately but it's getting worse and worse...sometimes more than once a day. To add to the sneakiness, each call seems to come from a different US city, so impossible to tell whether to answer the phone or not.

Anyone else having this problem ?

I had/have same problem, same companies keep calling from different numbers... I started answering them all and telling them to add me to their do not call list, or call them back to do that but most of the time they are calling from a disconnected number. For the last few months the amount of BS calls has dropped off significantly. Went from 3-5 per day to a couple a week.

National do not call registry, helps a little but you still get phone spam.

I don't answer anonymous calls that are not local, and some of those I still ignore.

Use the block function on the phone for every robo call.

No way to eliminate completely, but you can cut them down.

Did yours start out with a recorded pitch and then go to live person ? I've never listened to more than a few words of one of these "Google" calls to find out...

I love the spammers that say their not covered by the do not call registry,
as they are seeking donations from 501-c, local sherrif, church etc.

I tell them that I'm on the "do not call" for a reason.
I don't want you or anybody else to call me.

Just because you have a loophole in your back pocket, the fact that I
have my number on that list should tell you that I don't want
what your selling....irregardless.

And....if I was going to donate to your charity, etc. now that
you've bothered me, I'm gonna make real sure, you don't get anything
from me.

I think there is supposed to be a law coming on line were the cell companies are supposed to verify the caller is showing their real number in caller ID, to reducing the spoofing. Given that the Do Not Call list is mostly useless and NoMoRobo only sort of works, I don't have high hopes.

Sometimes... I usually start hitting 0 key to get to a person sooner. Some of them, at the end of the spiel give you the option of being removed from their list.

But what if I want to call you ? You may have just won the Publisher's Clearing House lottery ! :D

Use the block function on the phone for every robo call.
Robos, yeah, hang up but with people, don't get mad. Get even.

For a female voice -

"Say, you sound pretty hot. How's about your tits ? Round, long, skinny, solid, squshy, droopy ? Can you pop your bra off and send me a photo ?"

Male voice -

"Are you gay ? You kinda sound like it. Would you mind dropping by and sucking my dick for a few minutes ? I'm kinda horny today ..."

They usually go away quick, and you get some fun :D

... if it's important, people will leave a message.
For people, perhaps. But if I am calling a salesman and it goes to voicemail, my reaction is "Fuck you. Answer the phone, dickbreath." And then I go somewhere else and never ever ever deal with that place again.

It's got to be pretty special before I put up with that crap from sales. Answer the g-d phone, and I don't give a shit if you have to put up with robocalls. It's your job.

Just need congress to make it a felony to
have robocall equipment or to use it.
a good deal of it isn't even originating here it's over seas.

got to remember the phone companies don't want to stop it they make money from it.

kind of like the 3 or 4 phony fedx shipping final notice daily emails.

From what I have learned the robo calling spammers no longer care about regulations or fines they are hit with because the profits are so enormous. Not to be an ass, but if I only got one junk call a day I would be happy. I have been on the do not call list since day one. I am probably a target as I list a cell phone number for my business phone. The crap calls all seem to roll with the flavor of the month, lately it has been the business accusation and the business loan people calling 6 times a day. Also my phone keeps getting text alerts for bank fraud of my business account, strangely enough they reference a bank I do not use.

For business numbers, there are services that make the inbound caller press one before it dials to your real phone. My mechanic put that in and said his spam call rate dropped 100x.

And just what does this cost ?

And is this service provided by the same spammers ?

Sounds like a Mafia rubdown to me.

Whom do you know that is NOT?

Phone traffic has moved-off CCITT / ITU end-to-end bothway confirmed signalling to VoIP. Source is easily spoofed. Telco no longer cares. There is not enough money spare in their fee structure to chase it if they did care.

Banks don't chase bad loans. Retailers and Credit card issuers don't chase fraudsters. That isn't where the money is. They write them off and simply increase the burden they impose on the ones they need not chase. Their customer base or "membership".

As with on-screen "advertising", any such call may be a vehicle to attempt to infect the receiving device - often a handheld. "Selling" not necessarily the objective.

Same pattern, different cities as source even when they disagree with the World Zone One numbering plan for the number faked. About a dozen a day if I am active on PM. About three per day when not. All bones in any given IP skeleton are connected, yah?

About three new ones in each whole YEAR when I still had GSM service, not "5G". GSM had legacy telco signalling.

Try that. Run heavy on PM and/or the 'net in general for a week, then "ban" yourself for a week. And/or pull the published number off your website in favour of a "Contact Form". Those are feasted-on by robot "crawlers". Same as PM's data is so extensively tracked and "mined". You didn't REALLY think you could secure a MySQL DB back of php, did you? Last time that happened their was a star in the East!

Takes a long time to go off-radar. But you can expect to see the same pattern of robocall arrivals drop as well after a lag.

Several years, mind. Her OWN carriers who have already paid death benefits and refunded premiums post-mortem are still trying to get me dear departed Mum to take NEW insurance policies. Same company!

Well.. dumb like a fox ,those inch-hoorance undertakers. Not bloody likely to have to pay-out a health insurance claim on a person over two years buried, are ye?

But in due course... you fade off the radar...

It's an advertising and data harvesting, data mining, database cracking & information theft - for selling-on more than "use" - "industry" thing. AKA the Devil's whorehouse, Google as the "mama san".

"Glass houses" we all live in. Read it and weep.

Latest release of OpenBSD finds a camera and audio recording capability on the platform during the install? It automatically options both of them inoperative. Does YOUR OS do that for you? A "sysctl" Wizard has to turn them on a-purposes. Few do. Smart folks.

Just go and use your phone. Oh.... wait...

:(

If no more than one robocall a day? You should run for President.

Of the United States.

A cosmic whim has granted you the ability to traffic in s**t and still be able pick up a turd by the clean end.

Capitalize on that while you still can. It's only temporary.

But do NOT wear your hair funny, nor shape your lips when speaking as if advertising fellatory services!

The "teflon-D 'coz no shit sticks" effect may not even make it to the campaign finals.

QED

:D

I get a few different ones....
The IRS that is going to ...quote..."Start big expensive lawsuits if no money by tomorrow....)
The "Open enrollment is running out....hurry before you lose your healthcare...."
And....."hurry .....you need to contact us to qualify to extend your automotive warranty...."

When I tried blocking them i found something interesting.....I was getting the different scam calls from one phone number...???? Scammers clearing house maybe???? Soon after blocking the number I started getting the same calls from a "different" number. Instead of blocking it I have just named the phone number "SCAM".......I imagine they will change the number again and I will just name it "SCAM 2.0"

Here is an idea....lets make it illegal. wWe all know thats how to solve these problems.....uhm....yeah...

How 'bout a new 'caller pay' system, where everyone who dials, pays a buck, and whoever they call, gets the buck. :D Then, I suppose we'd soon run out of phone numbers as I'd want about a hundred different phone numbers ;)

I get the same thing and it really pisses me off because it goes straight to my voicemail, phone never rings. Some BS about having a warrant and calling some agency.. hope they all burn in hell.
