Back in the 1920s and 30s, towels were a luxury only the wealthy had. People wrung out their wash cloths and dried themselves with those. Works well.

I hate non-absorbent towels too. Try the Concierge by Dundee ones.

Keep in mind those might be very good value-for-money, and good enough to solve the problem. But.... if you want the best, they WILL cost more.

Here are sites with a bit of explanation of ratings and ranking as to the textiles used:

    Bath sheets are better.

Do a search on GSM (grams per square meter) when you search for towels, or bath sheets.

FYI if you have a girlfriend - partner, they seam to freak out about the notion of takeing your new go pro in the shower - bath just to see if it really is water proof. yeah sure you have to be carefully what you record, but shower water in slow mo bouncing on the bottom of the tray is pretty neat so too is the bath tub water drain spiral thing looking up from under neath.

As to non absorbent towels, i too second the fabric softener thing, just don't use too much and your fine.

That said i do have one towel that is some kinda plastic and would not absorb anything. Normally i end up using old towels - clothes as rag, but it would not even really soak up oil so it got chucked, i have no idea what fibre it was, but for wiping anything it was worse than useless.

We moved a couple years ago and as a house warming gift my mom bought us (wife) new matching bathroom stuff, 2 rugs, towels, wash rags and the thing that goes in front of the toilet. They must have been the same kind of towels because yes it was like drying off with Saran Wrap! It will take many times washing them to actually dry you off. I bitched about it but apparently looks are more important than function.

At first I hated them! They do get better though.

You asked about bath towels on a machinist forum. Maybe get tampon recommendations too?

I brought it up to my wife and she said "John Welden wants to know what?" I just said you are odd that way and moved back to talking about towels. I tried John.

Have you heard of Google? You can use it to find answers to these sorts of questions. Then you don't need to ask on a god damn machinist forum.

This and 4000 other towel recommendations took me three seconds to find.

But where's the fun in that? .for starters we wouldn't get a rise out of the likes you.

OH DAMN! there I go again, .....thinking that proper machinists, such as yourself, have a sense of humour.

It seems like maybe about five years ago people started asking the most retarded off topic questions and it has gone on to become a regular thing you see on here. Now people think it's okay to ask any god damn thing they can think of.
