From the third link "One hospital based trial found a lower rate of clinical respiratory illness associated with non fit tested N95 respirator use compared with medical masks. Eight of the nine retrospective observational studies found that mask and/or respirator use was independently associated with a reduced risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Fourth link is a meta analysis study concerning health care workers working on sick patients and effectiveness of n95 vs surgical masks, not something most of us here are doing. From that study conclusion "Although N95 respirators appeared to have a protective advantage over surgical masks in laboratory settings, our meta-analysis showed that there were insufficient data to determine definitively whether N95 respirators are superior to surgical masks in protecting health care workers against transmissible acute respiratory infections in clinical settings." I.E. INCONCLUSIVE DATA

I'm not looking any further, do you ever read the studies referenced, or just gobble up someones cherry picked interpretation of the study?

rate of hospitalizations is the bigger indicator.
that number has to be kept at a manageable number, so the health care system doesn't collapse.
you do know that if the hospital system is over run with covid patients and you get shot,
are in a car wreck after getting drunk at the bar or get beat over the head by protestors.
it effects the care you get, the resources are already used up.
Yeah, so many people going to hospitals that they had/have to lay off staff and give CEO's more money?

Is it funny? Really? Is more than 125000 deaths in this country alone funny? 500000 around the World?

I must be out of touch with modern humor.

And why post it if you don't agree with it? It's a sick, vile bit of non-think, and deserves derision.

Do you understand why!? It's because so many people are terrified of going to the hospital due to the risk of exposure, and it has caused chaos in some hospital systems. In and of itself, this fear has lead to a number of excess deaths due to people delaying seeking help until disease progress is too far along.

The money to CEOs is indeed criminal, but we keep voting in politicians who happily support such policies. Maybe we should stop doing that?? And no, trump was never the answer!

Does any one have info on the latest hospital "treatment" for walk-in or "just bad enough to need care" patients?

Have vents been tossed for severe cases? The cure being as bad or worse than the disease?

    Asking for a friend.

You think a lot of things are criminal only because they offend you.

From what pathologists are seeing, it appears that what you want to do is get oxygen to people early. Autopsies are showing extensive brain damage from lack of oxygen, early in the illness. As more research is done, it looks like pneumonia is not the only thing damaging people.

Many survivors are having a lot of other problems as well. Heart problems are common, which they thought were myocarditis, but autopsies are showing aren't. The wrong kinds of cells are showing up in damaged heart tissue.

This babe is a devious mofo. You can spout "flu" all you like but if you have two eyes, it obviously ain't.

We may be seeing only the tip of the iceberg .... an interesting thought.

Exactly what I was reading the other day, if you make it to hospital in time - a good few don't ** (I know some ambulance drivers) and eventually out of ICU you've a very long road to travel and are likely to be left with permanent damage.

** I was told of several cases where the patients while obviously very sick were ''basically doing okay'' - as in hanging in there, but even being put on oxygen etc etc by paramedics to stabilise them etc etc for transport, ....didn't make it to the ambulance.

You asked about ventilators, a couple of months ago New York city doctors said they were too aggressive using them. Oxygen could have been used for many.

On the daily reports from San Antonio they are still using them, they are at half capacity and losing ground every day on ventilators available, hospital beds, staff and such.

A couple of weeks ago an infected sheriffs deputy that had been working the county lock up decided it was time to go to the hospital. He got in the car and decided he forgot something important, went back into the house to get it and died.
Just putting together anecdotal pieces it sure seems that beside underlying conditions fatalities are related to getting a large viral load initially.

I believe my little community in Nevada is about to get a hard lesson. There was a parade, community meal, and fireworks get-together scheduled for this weekend, all canceled this morning due to 5 new cases in past week, and several of those new cases have refused to quarantine, or provide contacts to trace. Hospital announced yesterday that they were not issued any Remdisiver, and that the larger hospitals where they usually lifeflight people to are not accepting patients from the smaller hospitals at this time. Not sure how many beds they have, 12 ICU beds and 9 ventilators iirc, for a population of 10K, not sure if that is enough.

Have a wonderful 4th of July!

These dumbass rich kids changed their tunes pretty quick after being subpoenaed for information and facing $2000/day fines:

There are laws in Nevada to cover this, no idea how much teeth they have, and it might be a squeezing blood from a turnip situation. So far we have avoided the whole protest silliness, but some of our local rocket scientists have to decided to hold a protest parade, lol, the whole flippin world is going nuts!
