random words being replaced by ad links?

Install Ghostery add on if you use Firefox. Blocks all that crap. In fact it is blocking the following on this page for me right now...

VigLink- this seems to be offender for inserting ads into the forum text.

Well, that makes me wonder, are these links some kind of mal-ware? Or are they deliberate on the part of either our board's sponsor, for additional income? Or on the part of vBulletin, the makers of the software for this board?

WHO is making the money on this?????

Hope it is only a temporary 'need' .. but UNTIL Our Leerless Feeder sorts the VigLink curse...

..remember that Chinese "factorydaily.com/forum" portal?

The one that has been ripping-off PM's posts?

...guess where one can view PM traffic without screen pain or VigLink insanity?

Yep.

First we drive the machining and manufacturing industry offshore, then the very discussion of its bones?.

Irony is a Mother F..... ain't it?

...better get yer skates on Don Thomas,

. or that Hatteras is going to have to be a Cheoy Lee ...with Chinese Diesels...

:(

Get rid of dial up, it's not 1997 anymore. :D

You didn't read my other comments, I'm not on dial up.

I find your comments:
1. not funny
2. not warranted
3. defeating the point.

and I'm certainly not going to pay $100 a month more for some sooper
dooper t-1000 fiber line just to speed up the dowloading of advertisement
movies, cartoons, and other crap like "legendary power" ad's for Dake.

If I wasn't logged in, I would see links in posts before the new version. IIRC there's an Amazon ad service that does that. It randomly picks key words and turns them into a link to a sale page. So Amazon would link to their own product pages, etc. I don't see it anymore (adblock at work, and adblock+ghostery at home) but it's a common ad service strategy. Not malware typically. Amazon services don't have a bad reputation for malware.

However if you have download issues, it's nothing to do with the substitution of a few bytes for a few more html bytes...

Ooops, fat fingered a "reply with quote" instead of "edit my existing post"

Or, I was refering to the sock puppet on my left hand...

I deleted the double (wrong) post.

Which is fine except I like having ads for relevant stuff.
In fact I make it a point to click through to advertisers regularly to keep the revenue stream up.
Gotta pay the bills.

installed Ghostery...the links are still there...any advice?

You need to go into the settings and tell it what you want it to block. I just set it to block everything and then if you want to see something you can tweak the settings for each site you visit.

Are Ad Blocking Browser Extensions Killing The Internet?

Trouble is most of these VigLink ads are not even close to relevant.

Interesting article.... I think a cheap monthly "premium" membership (ad free) program could be a good way to make some revenue for the site. I just can't stand the amount of tracking data these ad companies harvest off all of us.

1. I am hilarious
2. I don't care
3. What point? That you don't know how to do internet 101?
