I had an EPDM (synthetic rubber) roof put on the shop. The problem was that the roofer failed to tell me he had never done one before. He got wrinkles in it, which didn't bother the ability to shed water but racoons eat the top off the wrinkle. Why, I have no idea, but they are racoons, they leave tracks. One bad one deteriorated the sheeting so much that it made a depression that acted like a funnel, bringing in more water. I patched the holes with Eternabond tape, but it didn't stay stuck. Finally I got a can of aerosol foam and inserted the long spout into the holes and squirted a ring around the hole, then worked in until foam came out the hole. The foam bulged the membrane, lifting it above the water, so from a simple mechanical standpoint, it shouldn't let any water in.
