OT Finding a good CPAP headgear

I've been using a CPAP for several years now with the nasal pillows and am having a difficult time finding a set-up where the nasal pillows stay properly positioned as I move in my sleep. As I turn they sometimes shift slightly and start to leak around my nostrils resulting in more noise. Is there anything out there that does a good job staying position if you move your head while sleeping. I sleep through it, but my partner will be happier if it is quieter in bed. She'll also stop waking me up when it is particularly loud or annoying. I've used the Res Med P10 and it was comfortable, but not very stable and the Philips Nuance which is fairly stable and doesn't move as much, but is also louder and vented right at the nose which can be annoying to my partner.

Local company developed a mouth piece that is said to do away with cpap for many.

Have you looked into those options?

Not really. When I started looking at CPAP and alternatives several years ago, the mouth pieces hadn't yet achieved good results.

I see some people are plumbing an oxygen generator
into the CPAP machine.

Me thinks this might make the mask more tolerant to not
fitting so well.

Link to mouth piece? I just started with a new machine, (new sleep study too) with full mask and sorta like it. Quit CPAP 5 years ago because then the machines were like having a hair dryer next to you. Mask then not so comfortable either and often woke up with the mask on the floor. New auto machines are very quiet, full mask I use is comfortable. I would like to try the nasal pillows and may buy them on Amazon to try.

Well, used to be the moisturizer was this huge tray that you were told to sterilize every week. So once I put a shot of vodka in it thinking it would do the same job. Right before bedtime. Strange sleep that night.

I use the Philips Nuance (the regular cloth strap, not the solid plastic nuance pro). I've found that the silicon rubber nose pillow separates slightly from the mask, and this causes noise more often than the nose pieces separating from the nose. I just smash the nosepiece against the headgear frame, and this seems to stop the noise.

I first saw this done in the hospital (using oxygen from the wall outlet) by
the breathing specialist for my mother.

Then I read online of the home unit people buying generators
and plumbing them into the CPAP.

Certainly NOT the experimentation you've been up to.....:D
Next time, try beer.....

I did try Poland Spring fizzy water for a short time. Was really ok for a day or two. But that essence of raspberry can turn to stinking crap residue in a few short days. Water evaporates leaving a stronger smell every day. I think beer would turn to shiiit overnight.

This is the one I've been using for 17 years... CPAP.com - Breeze SleepGear CPAP Mask with ONE set of Nasal Pillows

The Breeze was brand new when I started and has worked well for me. The hose comes down over the nose and lets me sleep easily with my head on the pillow. It's very adjustable and I can put as little or as much pressure on the nose piece as I like.

I find that the nasal pillows ( green set) work well with no leaks during the night. I never have experienced dry eye from leaks. You can buy a mask on cpap.com that has three sets of different size pillows, which I would recommend for a first purchase so you find the size that fits you best.

Part 2 of the original long post that gave me database errors. Wonder why ?????

When I first started using CPAP I had to learn to sleep with my mouth closed. Some people place a piece of tape on the lips while learning to do this.

Even with insurance I just buy the masks and supplies I need direct from CPAP.com as I spend less than my insurance deductible.

Over the years I have had problems with "rain out" as I need a humidifier. On the breeze I use a heated hose that helps tremendously. The hose that connects to the mask hose is heated but the mask hose is not. I have a small felt hose cover that insulates the mask hose and takes care of all most all rain out. The breeze hose clips into a open clip on the top of your head, with the felt cover on the hose I can still place the hose in that clip.

Another Item I have found very usefull is the So Clean 2. SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer | SoClean CPAP Cleaning Solutions Best way to clean your mask, hose and humidifier! The Breeze pillow holder easily slips of the head gear and I just pop that into the So Clean every morning and I have a fresh mask to wear that night... I highly recommend it!

Welll...... Never mind...... I was checking to make sure the links worked and now it shows the mask as discontinued! I'm searching to see if I can find some old stock as all the others look to be much more uncomfortable to wear.. I have two new ones on the shelf but I'm going to need more than that in the time I hopefully have left :)

I did the CPAP for a few months until I realized how wrong it was. There is a 99% chance you are overweight. You will be better served by going back to your previous weight and then you won't need the CPAP machine.

I've been using CPAP for 20 years now. I'm on my 4th machine of various makes and models but I am still using the same type of mask I started with (Respironics). Just get a new one with new headgear every year or so. I know a lot of folks struggle with what type air delivery they use, but I have no problems. I sleep very well using a gel mask.
