Two thoughts from someone who knows nothing

When one gets 'banned' it says banned.
Could there be a way to set up a different level of 'banned' that says Granite? Similarly maybe when someone has been put on temporary timeout a different title than banned could be seetup

Back when I had an account on a VAX[hah!] at an old job, if you misused the system, or lost your password, the Admin had the rights to change your password as the only way to get into your account. Does the admin here have the same right? Then one could change the avatar

Absent a pandemic one hopes this bit of clerical work never becomes a big deal.....

I don't think "Granite" is clear enough for newbies to perceive.

    "Deceased" is much clearer.

    I like the esoteric vibe.

But that's the entire point. Granite is proposed so that there's no "turn off" factor for new readers, for reasons I noted in #39.

Yabutt, look at the crop of newbies, google search to here, instant sign up, posting about all manner of things already on the "not to be discussed" listing.

Very short attention (hey is that a SQUIRREL !) SPAN....

"Turn off factor" ??? simply indicating "deceased" is not rude, "Dead" is.

"No longer with us" in the context of a member, could also be mis-interpreted in the forums, (but not
speaking to someone in person, about a member)

Or just maybe change the color of their username? Or highlight it in such a way that it stands out from us?

Bury me as "Plastic" or maybe just "non-active" works well.

How about something like a reduced size version of their avatar with a black band on it?

It has to be something that can be done without a re-write of the forum software and that means working with the existing tools.

In the amateur radio community the deceased person is called a "silent key." I consider this to be a respectful designation.

Silent key is a bit of a hallowed designation...why not go with lights out or made the trip.
