Presetting tool heights

Hello,

How do you guys pre-set tools?

Currently I do it as follow:

I use a 3D Taster to set zero.
This is my reference tool.

The 3D Taster is set to a tool length setter (little dial indicator) and the value is stored in Z of WCS G120.
All my other tool offsets are set under G120.

This way I don't have to set tooloffsets after each change of a work piece.

I want to use a height gauge so I can setup all my tools when the machine is doing his warm-up cycle.
But how should I do it?
For example my 3d taster is 100mm long. And a endmill holder is 60mm. Should I store the difference in the offset list?
And from where should I start counting? Is the toolchange position my "0"?

Sounds like you're doing this offline.

Zero your height gage on your taster. This is your reference point. Measure the rest of your tools based off that zero. That's your offset. Tools taller than the taster will be +offsets, shorter tools will be - offsets.

Now when you zero your taster on the workpiece all your offsets should be correct.
