    FWIW I find an 8" 4 jaw to be a very useful size. But as always it depends on what you're needing to hold the most.

    You can use the full spindle speed but I'd be thinking of a collet chuck for round bar work, or maybe a good 6" 3 jaw with reversible jaws.

    I think I have maybe 10 chucks for my Chipmaster lathe (I'm far too lazy to reverse the jaws in a 3 jaw when I can swap the chuck faster) and 4 chucks for my Monarch CY lathe.
