    lap the valves with compound (machine head and valve if lash is out too far): those should seal tight mate perfect

    piston head can be dirty (will be soon after running). too much buildup on piston can reduce quench area or change shape. if not out of tolerance don't take apart for just a dirty look or thin coat of carbon. you dont' even want the piston head smooth.

    for exhaust valve keeping clean increases life of valve as as allowing tight seat; and these are harded clean without damaging, dirty faster
