i also use crest cut mills which leave a better finish. sometimes its more what finish is acceptable

Fine tooth and coarse tooth roughing end mills are generally designed for ferrous metals, they have a large K Land on the flutes so they are ideal for Carbon Steels, Alloy Steels, Ductile Iron and 303 Stainless. They do also work in other Stainless Steels but the crest cut end mills linked above are better as they have a better edge prep for Stainless and Titanium. There also are roughers designed for Aluminum.
