Sampson Chuck Jaws

I picked up an old 6" Sampson 4-jaw scroll chuck for REALLY cheap ($10). But it only came with outside jaws.

Finding inside jaws for this chuck is VERY unlikely so I thought I'd grind down the existing jaws to accept a set of Top Jaws. I have the equipment to do that - except the jaws are hardened so drilling and tapping holes in them for the Top Jaws seems like a show-stopper.

Is it?

I also considered making a set of jaws but I'm stumped on how to cut the back side of the jaws - you know, the curved groove side.

Ideas?

I see plenty of "quality" chucks with holes drilled in the jaws,so its not very difficult to do.........From the broken jaws Ive seen ,the jaws are deeply carburized,so I suggest you you cut off the excess with an abrasive wheel, when the new surface is likely quite soft and machinable.
