Slip Ring Material

The slip ring on my lathe is worn out. This part is is used to push a rotating B112 steel cylinder in and engage the clutch. The sheet calls for grey iron as the material. I am wondering if making it out of bronze or HDPE may be a better option?

I only need 1"x1"x6" piece to make this part, so sourcing the material shouldn't be hard, but I am not sure.

Subtract out your life expectancy, and see if an alternative is acceptable.
How much longer does it need to last?

Grey Iron is my first choice for this application. Bronze, second choice. Stick with the grey iron for best end result.

Thanks, I figured it was grey iron for a reason, but wasn't sure if 2020 materials available may be a better option. Will order some grey metal.
