Is something like this possible ?

I have a 7ft long 30mm diameter steel bar ground and polished is there any way to put colored lines or markings at certain intervals along the bar ? an important fact is that Cylindrical linear bearings will slide over certain portions of the bar and will that scratch the color off ?

laser etching would be a good bet , possibly.

what's also possible is that the moderator will close your thread due to a confusing, meaningless title.

on lathe if you bring marker or pencil slowly leaning on tool holder to part it will make line on part if rotating. acid etching pen makes mark that does not come off with solvent.
.
if you use scriber you will scratch a line on rotating part
