Spammed/infected with a virus

When I open up PM I’m getting a “you’ve been infected with a virus” warning, and then a fake google page comes up, wondering if anyone else has this happening, or is it just on my phone?

(Of corse I don’t do what it says to do!)

Malware bytes is good, but it may or may not not work on this. It is most likely a browser hijacker. Removal instructions vary by browser. Be aware they can be a real PITA to get rid of.
Try searching "hijacker browsername" - i.e., hijacker firefox or hijacker opera or similar.

I keep getting one that says I've been selected by Verizon as the winner of a drawing or something. Almost always happens when I'm in the machines for sale forum. Happens just about every time I try to look there, too.

On laptops and desktops, a common variant is where one is trapped by a webpage, which demands that you click something. As one might surmise, it's a really bad idea to click that, or anything else in the page - one has no idea what is now wired to do what. Usually, all buttons are wired to do the same bad thing.

Instead, go to Task Manager (Windows) or Force Quit (Mac), and kill the browser. Then, clean the cache and cookies.

MacOS is immune to Windows malware, and vice versa, but HTML malware is cross-platform.
