Starrett 1015B Inch Reading Portable Dial Indicator

Sort of a strange thread here but I somewhat recently bought a few used Starrett pieces from a friend and a 1015B is one of them.

What is this typically used for? It's like new with a case so I couldn't turn it down for the price.

Sheet metal, or measuring something where you need that throat depth, or in a production environment you can set it to measure a Zero dimension.

Looks like it has a 0" to 1" range. Very handy for quick measurements of almost anything that will fit in the jaws. Faster than a micrometer, less range than a caliper, probably as accurate as a thousandths reading micrometer.

I don't see any way to preset it for a zero reading at a predetermined dimension, but it may have that. This would be good for a fast GO / NO GO reading in a production environment.
