Is there such a thing as an L-000 spindle?

Over on the Garage Journal, a British fellow has a French-made lathe, albeit one with the tags and charts in English.

Anyway, he pulled the chuck off and thought it was an American-style L-type taper...

... Until he measured it:

Small end is approximately 1-11/16", large end about 2-1/8", and has a 1/4" key. He's pretty sure the nut isn't imperial, probably 2.5mm pitch.

IS there (or was there) such a thing as an L-000 spindle? Or is this some one-off?

Doc.

The standard shows L00 as the smallest. But Rivett built lathes with L000 spindles. I expect tooling is very rare, as the size never got popular. See Tony's page that mentions the special spindle nose: Rivett 918 Lathe

Here is a quote from that page: "The all-important spindle nose was formed as an L000 version of the then popular and effective American long-taper key-drive type - the smallest "official" size being L00, This was a fitting that provided a robust and secure mounting and also allowed high speeds to be run in reverse with complete safety. Unfortunately, as with so many Rivett components, although the dimensions of the nose matched the standard fitting for L00, it is believed that a different thread pitch was used for the retaining ring."

That is quite interesting. However, it sounds like the "L-000" from Rivett has the same actual taper nose dimensions, just a different nut? The OP's taper has a big end diameter of 2 1/8" while L-00 (or the Rivett "L-000") has a big diameter of 2.75".

Here is a post that popped up that may have some relevance(Need help with ID for Lathe spindle nose) The nose inside taper looks way bigger than the one you posted, but the outside may be similar?
