I need to repair some external threads that are 1" BSW (looks like 1"-8 with 55 degree angles). I see a couple Whitworth thread files but none for 8TPI. Anybody know of a source?
I don't think a die would work well because the threaded parts are in segments. But maybe I could cut off a quarter of a die and weld a handle onto it to use as a thread file.
For coarse pitches I use a slim 3sq saw file, yes I know it's 60 & not 55deg but used with care its often ''close enough'' ………….oh, and while I'm completely willing to accept it's me - but I've never had much luck with very coarse thread files.
I would think some of our British members would be able to provide a source. This should be a common tool in England, especially in motorcycle shops that are into old English bikes.
