It could be for almost anything.
One use would be the nut for the knee elevating screw on a milling machine.

3"Dia thread by the tape behind #1......would be a costly piece to have made.......Bit like the elevating screw nut on a big radial drill ...costs $Ks to replace .

We use something similar on a tobacco bale press, both manual and electric powered presses. Few months ago a friend broke his. US$ 680 new.
